A few thoughts to keep in mind late January
• Keep talking often to your child as they approach the end of holidays. They may have some anxieties about being in a new classroom, new teacher and friends shifting. It's all about change.
• Savour what's left of holiday time with your child even though everyone is getting edgy about starting a new school year.
• Have you plans to be more involved or less in the school this year? If so talk about this with your child.
• Will there be new routines this year? Perhaps with several children there will be different starts to schools, different sports activities etc. Start to talk about these difference to family routine.
• Think about setting up a notice board that tells everyone what to expect as the holidays come to an end.
• Have family dinners where possible as soon all that may change with school and work routines beginning for the year.
• Talk about your child setting up their room fresh for the new school year. Let them tell you what could help to smarten up the look.
• Start talking about technology and how your family rules will be set up this year with their use of computers, homework demands etc. Make them part of this discussion.
“A new school year is all about growth socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically. It’s all about embracing change.”
