By now you are starting to think about school for your child. I am sure new shoes have been purchased, uniform checked etc.

One of the most important times to be available for them is just after school. This can be a tricky time for a child with fatigue and emotions of the day still floating around.

Consider:

  • The first 30 seconds after school aren’t for questions or fixing, they’re for helping your child land.

  • Before your child hears a single word, they read your face for safety and welcome.

  • Quiet companionship after school often settles children more than well-intended questions.

  • Big feelings after school don’t mean a bad day, they usually mean a child who worked hard to hold it together.

  • When children feel connected first, conversation follows naturally.

  • Don’t set expectations straight after school. Give them space to transition into the afternoon.

  • Simply be present in an uncomplicated way.
