Your child is watching you—not to judge you, but to learn from you. They just love seeing you in action.

They are learning how to handle disappointment by watching what you do when things go wrong. They are learning kindness from the way you treat others, resilience from the way you keep going, and confidence from the way you face life's challenges.

You don't have to be a perfect parent. You just need to be a real one. An authentic one.

Let your children see you make mistakes, say sorry, laugh at yourself, try again and occasionally say, “I don't know, but we'll work it out.” Such honesty wins the day with your child.

Your everyday behaviour is teaching lessons that no textbook can match.

The way you live becomes part of the way your child learns to live.

So don't put pressure on yourself to get everything right. Just keep modelling the person you hope your child will become—kind, hopeful, honest, resilient and willing to have a go.

You may not always be aware of the influence you make on your child, but it is ever present to them. They will want to mirror their parents in many ways. Now is your chance.

“Your children will become who you are: so be who you want them to be.”
